Overview
The "Fire Temple" monument, one of the main attractions of the "Absheron" tour program, is unique due to its current state and natural origin, making it truly valuable. The first written sources about the "Fire Temple" date back to the 10th century. The Byzantine scholar Pseudo-Pilsky describes Baku as a "submarine fire that rises from the rocks." In addition, Arab scholars and travelers such as Al-Masudi, Abu Dulaf al-Yanbu'i, Al-Farisi al-Istakhri, and Abdul Rashid al-Bakuvi provided extensive information about the burning mountains in the Absheron Peninsula in their works. In 2007, the territory of the "Fire Temple" was declared a state historical, cultural, and natural reserve. The area of the reserve is 64.55 hectares and includes the Gurd nest, two ancient cemeteries with a thousand-year history, an ancient mosque, the Gotursu spring, Ali's stone, Kardashi, Kirmaki valley, and the Fire Temple. The "Fire Temple," also known as the "Fire Temple of Surakhani," is located 30 kilometers from the center of Baku, in the southeastern part of the Surakhani village on the Absheron Peninsula. The modern temple was built on top of a natural gas field that emerged from the ground in the 16th-17th centuries. It is believed that the temple was built by the residents of Surakhani. In all historical sources, Baku is presented as the land of natural fires, and it is believed that this is the first temple belonging to our era in the Baku area. The "Gala Archaeological-Ethnographic Museum Complex" was created in 2008 with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in the ancient Gala village in the Khazar district of Baku. Visitors to the museum learn about the ancient history of the Gala village. The Gala Archaeological-Ethnographic Museum Complex, one of the rare museums created under the open sky, has preserved and protected the lifestyle, burial mounds, cellars, residential houses, the remains of the ancient palace, 5 mosques, 3 baths, etc., of the residents living in the Gala village from the 3rd millennium BC to the present day. In 2011, the Gala Information Center, Ethno-Ecological Center, and Antique Objects Museum were created on the territory of the Gala Museum Complex.
