Baku Ears Mountain is not only one of the highest points of Absheron but also famous for its interesting rock climbing routes. The rugged rocks and wide panoramic views make this area an ideal spot for adventure seekers.

Baku Ears Mountain – Rock Climbing Adventure at the Peak of Absheron

Near the plains of Baku, away from the city's noise, there is a mountain that seems like a hidden treasure for true climbers: Baku Ears. Located in the direction of Lokbatan, this unique elevation is considered the highest point of the Absheron Peninsula – about 400 meters high, featuring two peaks and diverse rock formations that promise climbers an unforgettable experience.

The natural elevations called "Baku Ears" are among the most remarkable geographic features of the Absheron Peninsula. In fact, Baku Ears consist of two separate peaks: the southern peak Taxtalyq and the northern peak Kerkaz. These peaks are significant for both the region's geography and culture.

Southern Peak: Taxtalyq

The southern peak, Taxtalyq, is located in the southern part of Baku Ears and has an elevation of 384 meters. Locals call this hill Taxtalyq. The terrain is relatively smooth initially, but it becomes steeper as you approach the summit.

  • This peak is a real fun center for both lead and top rope climbing:
  • Short rock routes of varying difficulty are available
  • Natural rock caves create a unique atmosphere
  • Caves provide shade in summer and shelter from wind in winter
  • Suitable for both beginners and intermediate climbers

Northern Peak: Kerkaz

The northern peak, Kerkaz, is the northern summit of Baku Ears, standing at 396 meters. Also known as "Kerkaz Mountain," this elevation is one of the highest points on the Absheron Peninsula. Its height and terrain make it clearly visible from Baku and surrounding areas, serving as a natural landmark.

An ideal place for true adventure and challenge lovers.

  • Solid rocks of 30–40 meters height
  • Suitable for Top Rope and Trad Climbing (classic climbing)
  • Firm and grippy rocks are perfect for long climbing lines
  • Even from afar, the mountain's silhouette calls climbers

Strategic Area for Mountaineering and Alpine Training

Baku Ears Mountain is not only for rock climbing but also serves as an important training area for mountaineering and alpine preparation during summer. There is hardly another training zone so close to the city with such height, rugged terrain, and diverse climbing structures.

Training Base for Climbers and Mountaineers

  • The 400-meter elevation provides a rare opportunity for Baku’s surrounding areas. Rock ascents, steep slopes, and technical climbing lines simulate medium and high mountain conditions perfectly.
  • Rope techniques, safety equipment usage, team movement, leadership exercises, and seasonal training modules can all be applied here.
  • The area can be used for initial alpine climbing stages and preparation for mountain expeditions. Even with its short distance, the mountain’s structure resembles real mountain conditions.

Suitable for Planned Training

  • Sports clubs, rock climbing, and mountaineering schools have been using this area as a training site for years.
  • Short walking distance, easy car access, multiple routes, and varying difficulty levels make this area practical and effective for mountaineering training.
